Fourth of July

Our fourth of July was as simple as they come. We usually spend Danny's day's off out of the house. We've had an IKEA dresser in desperate need of assembly for weeks. It's sat in boxes collecting dust and cave drawings from my kids. Every Monday I'd look at our unassembled dresser and say THIS Saturday will be the one. Then said Saturday would arrive and I'd say it could wait. First of all it would mess with our adventure day. Which is pretty much the most solid Hoefelmann family motto. Saturdays are for adventures. Building a dresser isn't very adventurous, even if the instructions come in multiple languages. Second, Danny does so much for us, when he does have time off I want him to be able to relax and spend time with the kids.

When the fourth came around and we had another full family day together, Danny was so sweet and said he wanted to spend some time at home and build the dresser. Over the past few years I've really grown to love Independence Day. The last 3 years we've been in 3 different cities on the fourth of July and spent them with friends. This year was so much more simple. Our only plans were to go out for ice cream. Then spend the rest of the day at home playing with poppers and lighting up a bunch of glow sticks while we ate dinner and watched a movie. Part of me wanted to jump on the light rail and head downtown to watch the fireworks show, but we stuck to our plan and it was exactly what we needed. We're always on the go that I really feel like slowing down and just being together is what made our day special. We went to Culver's for ice cream, had a popper war, and spent most of the day at home eating hamburgers and hotdogs, wearing glow sticks and watching Mighty Ducks. Danny also managed to squeeze in time to build our beautiful new TV stand/dresser! We celebrated Independence Day as a family. Just the four of us....and I really really loved it.

I'm so grateful for my family and this life we are blessed to live here in the United States.
