5Th and 2nd

We officially have a 5th and 2nd grader at our house!! Which means Naveya and Daxton aren't at the same school anymore since Navy is now in MIDDLE SCHOOL! We fell in love with this school district when Navy started going back in 1st grade. They have a dual-language program, so the teachers teach half of the day speaking Spanish, and the other half in English. They also have such a good arts program and overall just do things differently than most other public schools here in the valley, which I love! The only thing I wasn't too excited about when Navy started school there was the fact that 5th grade meant middle school. With our girl being in 1st grade at the time, I told myself that by the time 5th grade rolled around I'd be ready for it. Her 4th grade year I feel like I've talked about her starting middle school so much as I've realized, ok I thought I'd be ready...but I'm not! I'm not ready!! Ha! I can be a really good worrier. So mix that with me being in NO RUSH for these babies of mine to grow up, and I was starting to stress as this summer came to a close. Naveya, however, is ready. She has been so excited for this new chapter. She has the best group of friends around her and I know she is going to do so well and grow into her own even more this year as she takes on new challenges. Something I hope she knows is to never let someone else's limiting beliefs stop her from doing something she knows will help her grow. Not even me. (I mean, I got engaged the week before my 18th birthday, got married at 18, and had 2 beautiful kids by the time I was 21. Not that I recommend that for everyone. Haha! ;) Just saying...I'm one to talk! I've always followed my heart, done a lot of great things before I felt "ready", and Naveya is definitely her mother's daughter.)

I'm so excited for my Naveya Michelle and everything she is going to learn this year. She loved her first day of school having made it to all 7 periods without getting lost and has at least 1 class with each of her close friends! I know she is going to have some amazing experiences this year, and some tough ones too. Knowing her and I, this whole middle school thing is going to help us become even closer, while this mama learns to let her spread her wings a little more. So grateful I get to experience so many firsts with that girl! Gosh I love her so much!!!

Daxton started 2nd grade and I can't believe it!! He has the same two 2nd grade teachers Naveya had. One of his teachers sent a postcard the week before school started which made him so excited (and gave me leverage to threaten him with when he doesn't want to do his homework because his teacher knows where we live! Haha!) The first day of school we dropped Dax off first. Naveya walked him to class with her arm around him and Señora Aguayo told them how happy she was when she saw Daxton was going to be in her class. So far, Dax said learning Spanish has been his favorite part of 2nd grade. Especially playing Simón Dice (Simon Says)! He's also been so excited to be back, playing soccer at recess with his friends. I love that tender-hearted, wild boy of ours. With his other front tooth growing in! We've continued our tradition of asking the kids on the way to school what they are going to do to make the day great. Every time Daxton's answer is "make a new friend". Gosh you guys, kids are the best!!

These are the days. They make this mama emotional and crazy and exhausted. BUT they are SO GOOD!! So excited for this new school year and everything we'll get to do along with our kiddos as they go!
